FileKick v1.5 - Backup for Removable Drive Owners
Pocopson, PA - October 20, 1996 - FileTrak Software announces
the release of FileKick v1.5, the latest version of its disk
and file manager utility, now featuring Disk Mirror Backup.
This new file backup command allows a set of files to be
copied and their source directory structure to be duplicated
relative to the specified destination path. Options to "Clear
archived state", "Confirm on overwrite" and "Copy newer files
only" may be set. This command is ideal for backup of files to
high capacity removable drives (such as the Zip or Syquest) or
a networked drive.
File filter options now include the ability to exclude
files by name using up to ten wildcard name specifiers. This
feature may be used with any of the file management commands,
including the Xcopy or Backup commands to exclude files from
being copied.
Each command appearing in the command list box now has a
separate history list associated with the "Name" field of the
Drive panel. Thus one has access to separate lists of recently
"Opened" documents, programs "Run" or other files accessed by
any "Custom" command program.
One major time-saving feature added in this release is full
path make directory capabilities. When using the "Mkdir"
command or when a non-existent path is specified as part of a
destination file specification, all parent directories are
created as necessary in order to create the full path.
Other enhancements include better handling of Win95
filenames, including the ability to display long filenames when
printing a directory list and maintaining case sensitivity for
short filenames. The help file has been updated with more
examples and descriptions of other new features such as the
"Label Disk" command and a setup option to verify file copy
operations.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
FileKick v2.1 - Backup for Removable Drive Owners
Pocopson, PA - March 29, 1997 - FileTrak Software announces
the release of FileKick v2.1, the latest version of its disk
and file manager utility, now featuring Disk Mirror Backup
with backup filesets, log files and disk space analysis.
Disk Mirror Backup allows a set of files to be copied and
their source directory structure to be duplicated relative
to the specified destination path. Options to "Clear
archived state", "Confirm on overwrite" and "Copy newer files
only" may be set. This command is ideal for backup of files to
a high capacity removable drive or a networked drive.
File backup may be made at the drive, directory or
individual file level using one of two commands. The "Backup"
command applies to one or more individually selected files.
The "XBackup" command operates at the directory or drive
level and opens a submenu with choices to carry out a full,
incremental or filtered backup.
File filter options now include the ability to exclude
files by name using up to ten wildcard name specifiers. This
feature may be used with any of the file management commands,
including the Xcopy or Backup commands to exclude files from
being copied.
When doing frequent backups of the same source directories,
a backup fileset may be created to simplify the steps needed
to carry out the backup operation. Filesets can be accessed
by label in order to specify customized file selection criteria
and set other backup dialog parameters, including dated path
name generation and copy verification options.
The log file options allow the user to keep a record of
each backup made and the files that were backed up. Log files
include backup summary information including the total number
and size of the files copied, the destination drive volume
label and an optional comment entered at the time of backup.
When the disk space remaining in the destination drive may
be insufficient to copy all of the specified source files,
the user may carry out a detailed disk space analysis to
determine if the backup operation can complete successfully.
This check takes into account the destination drive's cluster
size and all files which will be overwritten.
One major time-saving feature added in this release is
directory tagging. Directory entries appearing in the file
list box of the Drive or Search panels may be tagged and
backed up or removed in one single operation. Directories
need not have a common root and may be selected from any
combination of drives on the system.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
FileKick v2.5 - Prying the Windows Shell Open
Pocopson, PA - June 15, 1997 - FileTrak Software announces
the release of FileKick v2.5, the latest version of its disk
and file manager utility, now featuring integration of Win95
and Win NT desktop shell features.
Selected Windows shell functions are accessible from the
context menu associated with a drive box, file or directory
entry selection. These functions allow you to make use of the
clipboard to copy files or folders, to open Explorer windows,
to delete files or folders to the Recycle Bin, to invoke
registered file viewers and to access the system's network
connection dialogs.
The context menu "Paste" command invokes the same file
copy function used by the desktop shell so that its user
interface is identical, including prompts and animated progress
controls. Similarly the clipboard "Delete" function uses the
shell's delete function and sends the selected files or folder
to the Recycle Bin.
The context menu commands "Open" and "Explore" start the
Windows Explorer in single or dual pane mode. Conveniently,
the selected file is automatically highlighted when the Explorer
window is opened. This allows easy access to any additional
system functions available thru the file's context menu.
If the Windows QuickView application has been installed,
the context menu will display the "QuickView" command for those
files for which the system has a file viewer registered. This
command will automatically start the correct file viewer for
the given file type. The network connection dialogs may now
be accessed directly from a drive's context menu.
Entries in the Directory List panel may be displayed using
long filename format and the "Locate" field specification will
accept long filenames as well. The integration with the desktop
shell functions is particularly nice since it is now easy to
keep a master list of all files on a system from which one can
quickly locate a file or folder and then open an Explorer type
window or use the clipboard for file copying.
The program is described as a Directory List and Backup
manager. Extensive disk mirror backup capabilites are provided
particularly geared to removable drive owners. Many file
filtering options may be applied and various file logging
options allow a record to be kept of the files backed up.
FileKick v2.5 works on any 80386 or better IBM compatible
PC running Windows 3.x, Win95 or Win NT. A 30-day fully
functional shareware version can be downloaded from FileTrak's
web site: http://www.voicenet.com/~filetrak. The registration
fee is $24.95.
FileTrak Software was founded in 1995 to develop innovative
concepts in file management such as filename export, directory
bookmarks, system wide directory lists and tables to provide
quick access to and storage of filename databases. FileKick is
certified by the Association of Shareware Professionals (ASP),
received a five star rating in ZDNet's Software Library and a
"Superior Shareware" classification in Windows Magazine. The
program recently was designated as a "finalist" in the 1997
Ziff Davis Shareware Awards contest.
